De’Aaron Fox Sounds Off on Being Named All-Star Replacement

De'Aaron Fox

After being snubbed from the All-Star game this season, Kings starting point guard De’Aaron Fox was recently named as an All-Star replacement and is set to make the first All-Star appearance of his career. The star guard has been stellar this season, averaging 24.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.3 rebounds per game.

The Kings point guard spoke with the media about his appreciation being selected to as an All-Star replacement following Sacramento’s Friday shootaround.

“I think it should have happened already, but I’m appreciative, for sure,” Fox told reporters. “… This is good for the team, for the organization.”

While Fox was appreciative, he made sure to mention that he should have been on the original list of Western Conference All-Stars. Fox also talked about his first thoughts he had after he got the call he would be on this year’s All-Star team.

“I didn’t care … I was more so worried about my wife and worried about our child being born,” Fox said Friday, noting the new family of three will travel to Salt Lake City for the game. “… I think it’ll be great for all of us to be able to experience that for the first time.”

Fox will be joined in Utah by teammate Damontas Sabonis who was named to the original All-Star team and plans to participate in the Skill competition on All-Star Saturday night. Sabonis was the first Kings player named to the All-Star team since Cousins in 2016.

Fox and Sabonis mark the first time that the Sacramento Kings have had two players named to the NBA All-Star team since 2004, when Brad Miller and Peja Stojakovic were selected together. This year’s Kings duo aren’t the only players that will be in Utah for All-Star weekend. Kings rookie Keegan Murray was selected to play in the Rising Stars tournament.
